New Delhi, 26 July : In a significant step towards incorporating national pride and consciousness of India’s military and technological prowess into school curricula, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is developing a new education module on ‘Operation Sindoor’. The move will be part of the official syllabus for students in Classes 3 to 12, and is intended to highlight India’s defence readiness, scientific accomplishments, and increasing global repute.
Officials in the Ministry of Education confirmed that the module is being developed and is ready to be released shortly. The content will cover 8-10 pages, designed to be age-appropriate for various age groups. Classes III to VIII students will be given a simplified, age-specific one, and Classes IX to XII will have access to a more elaborate and analytical version.
Operation Sindoor: A National Security Lesson
The learning material will highlight Operation Sindoor as a milestone in the strategic and operational preparedness of India. The operation proved India’s capability to protect its interests effectively, including its readiness due to recent threats faced by the region. Officially, the module seeks to induce a sense of patriotism, strategic sensibility, and national pride among young learners.
“Operation Sindoor indicates India’s resolve to protect its sovereignty. Through teaching students about such operations, we plan to instill respect for our military and awareness of national security,” an official working on the project told WSN.
Wider Themes: From Partition to Space
The module will extend beyond purely military accomplishments. It will incorporate allied national and historical issues, providing students with an overall picture of India’s history, contemporary world, and future ambitions. Some important inclusions are:
Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment): Encouraging eco-friendly and sustainable lifestyles.
The Horrors of Partition: A historical perspective on the trauma and displacement of the 1947 Partition.
India’s space odyssey: From Chandrayaan to Aditya L1, the syllabus will follow the country’s evolution as a space power.
Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, India’s first visitor to the International Space Station (ISS), will be among the highlighted stories in the module. His inclusion is to inspire students with Indian excellence and ambitions in real-life stories.
In line with NEP 2020 Vision
Inclusion of Operation Sindoor is in line with the overall objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 that underscore value-based education, national integration, and relevance in modern times. NCERT officials added that the content will be presented in a manner that is appealing and age-suitable, incorporating narrative narration and factual accuracy.
The new module is one of the initiatives to overhaul school syllabuses to make it more representative of India’s success in defence, science, and leadership on the global stage. It is also a move towards creating a more confident and informed generation based on their national heritage.
Scheduled for Release Shortly
While no exact date has been given, the NCERT is scheduled to publish the module in the next academic cycle. Teachers and curriculum designers feel it will be a useful tool to enhance students’ knowledge of India’s potential and role in a changing world.
