New Delhi, 14th Aug: On the eve of India’s 79th Independence Day, President Droupadi Murmu addressed the nation, extending her greetings and reflecting on the country’s progress, while also paying tribute to the victims of Partition. She highlighted India’s strong economic growth, its advancements in technology and infrastructure, and the decisive national response to terrorism.

Describing India as the “mother of democracy,” President Murmu underscored the core values of the Constitution—justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity. She noted the nation’s journey from a state of poverty at Independence to becoming the fastest-growing major economy in the world, with a GDP growth rate of 6.5%.

President Murmu pointed to several key initiatives driving this progress, including the Jal Jeevan Mission, which has delivered clean drinking water to over 15 crore households, and the Ayushman Bharat scheme, which now covers all senior citizens above 70. She also praised the National Education Policy for its far-reaching changes and the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam for empowering women.

In a strong message on national security, the President lauded the armed forces’ response to the recent Pahalgam terror attack, describing it as “cowardly and utterly inhuman.” She hailed “Operation Sindoor” as a landmark in “humanity’s fight against terrorism” and noted that the operation proved India’s indigenous defense manufacturing capabilities under the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ mission.

Concluding her address, President Murmu urged citizens to protect the environment and reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to good governance and zero tolerance for corruption. She expressed confidence that India is well on its way to becoming a developed economy by 2047, led by its youth, women, and marginalized communities.
