Thiruvananthapuram, 11th Jan: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Sunday said that only a developed Kerala can help build a developed India, as he laid out the vision of ‘Viksit Keralam’ while addressing the Kerala Kaumudi Conclave in Thiruvananthapuram.

Stressing that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the only leader in Indian history to have envisioned such wide-ranging development — from renewable energy to power generation and planet protection — Shah said infrastructure, education, research and development, industrial growth and higher personal incomes form the core of the ‘Developed Kerala’ mission.

“Our vision is to build a Developed Kerala, a Secure Kerala and a Kerala that respects everyone’s faith,” he said, adding that performance-based politics, transparent governance and justice for all are central to the Modi government’s approach.

Calling for governance without corruption in Kerala, Shah said a remittance-based economy alone cannot ensure inclusive development. While welcoming remittances, he said Kerala must explore tourism, education, maritime trade, Ayurveda, spices, IT, data storage and semiconductor sectors to create broader economic opportunities for its people.

The Home Minister questioned whether organisations like the Popular Front of India (PFI) and Jamaat-e-Islami could keep Kerala united, recalling that both ruling alliances in the state had opposed the Centre’s decision to ban PFI. He said the concept of a ‘Safe Kerala’ involves identifying and eliminating invisible threats that undermine social harmony.

He also called for a neutral investigation into the alleged gold theft case at the Sabarimala temple, stressing that justice must not only be impartial but must also appear to be impartial.

Shah accused successive state governments of fostering corruption by failing to investigate major scams and urged voters to give his party a chance to establish transparent governance, delivery without discrimination and development without vote-bank politics.

Highlighting central assistance to Kerala, Shah said while ₹72,000 crore was provided to the state between 2004 and 2014, the Modi government has allocated ₹3.13 lakh crore between 2014 and 2024, along with substantial additional funding for infrastructure, roads, railways, airports, urban development and smart city projects.

He also praised Kerala Kaumudi, calling it a credible and influential voice of regional-language journalism and the soul of the people of Kerala.
