New Delhi, 3rd Sept: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has urged for a wider public discourse to ensure human dignity through timely justice.
Delivering the 11th Dr. L. M. Singhvi Memorial Lecture in New Delhi on Tuesday, Birla said that despite constitutional guarantees of equality and justice, systemic delays continue to obstruct access to fair justice for citizens.
He emphasised that the framers of the Constitution, led by Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, had enshrined equality, socio-economic rights, and human dignity as the core principles of Indian democracy. “The judiciary, executive, and legislature must work in tandem to strengthen institutions and deliver speedy justice,” Birla said, while stressing the need for continuous reforms in the legal framework.
Reflecting on Dr. L. M. Singhvi’s contributions as a jurist, diplomat, and scholar, Birla said Singhvi’s legacy of constitutional scholarship and promotion of Indian democracy continues to inspire the nation. Chief Justice of India Shri B. R. Gavai also addressed the gathering.
