The Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik, inaugurated dialysis centres at 16 sub-district hospitals on Thursday. This initiative aims to provide improved renal treatment at the sub-divisional level.

The dialysis centers were opened in Khurda, Pallahara, Talcher, Soro, Kamakhyanagar, Hindol, Dharmagarh, Gunupur, Baliguda, Anandpur, Champua, Bonaigarh, Rairangpur, Udala, Tigiria, and Dungurpalli.

According to an official note released by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the facilities were virtually inaugurated by Patnaik.

Patnaik stated that the Odisha government introduced free dialysis facilities for kidney patients in 2018, making it the first state in the country to do so. Initially, dialysis centers were established at district headquarters hospitals, and now the government is expanding to 32 sub-district hospitals in the state.

The government will allocate Rs 50 crore to provide free dialysis facilities to kidney patients, Patnaik added. Additionally, 36 dialysis centers have already been opened at state-run medical colleges and district headquarters hospitals.

An official from the health department mentioned that Odisha will soon have a total of 68 dialysis centers, capable of conducting 3.7 lakh dialysis sessions per year.
