New Delhi, 11th Nov: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has confirmed that the National Security Guard (NSG) and National Investigation Agency (NIA), along with the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), have begun a thorough and multi-angle investigation into the Red Fort blast that killed at least eight people and left several others injured.
Addressing the media after visiting the blast site, Shah said that all nearby CCTV cameras are being scanned and multiple security agencies are on the ground.
“The NSG and NIA teams, along with the FSL, have now begun a thorough investigation. Orders have been given to examine all nearby CCTV cameras. I have also spoken to the Delhi Commissioner of Police and the Special Branch in-charge. We will explore all possibilities and present the results to the public,” Shah stated.
Under tight security, the Home Minister visited the blast site near Red Fort’s Subhash Marg traffic signal, where the explosion occurred around 7 PM on Monday in a Hyundai i20 car, injuring pedestrians and damaging nearby vehicles.
Shah later visited the injured at Lok Nayak Hospital and directed officials to ensure the best possible medical care. He has also sought a detailed report from Intelligence Bureau (IB) Director Tapan Deka on the incident.
When asked if the blast was a terrorist attack, Shah said,
“We are keeping all angles open and investigating from all perspectives. Until samples recovered from the site are analyzed by FSL and NSG, it is difficult to say what caused the incident. However, we are not ruling out any angle.”
A high-level security meeting has been called by the Home Minister on Tuesday, where top officials from the IB, RAW, and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) will review the situation.
Following the blast, a high alert has been sounded in Delhi, Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh, and Karnataka, as the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) closely monitors the developments.
The explosion comes within 48 hours of multiple anti-terror operations across India. On Sunday, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) foiled a bio-terror plot involving the deadly toxin Ricin, arresting three suspects, including a Hyderabad-based doctor, with alleged links to ISIS-Khorasan. The group had reportedly conducted reconnaissance of RSS offices and key public places in Ahmedabad, Delhi, and Lucknow, and attempted to procure weapons via cross-border drone drops.
In another major security breakthrough, a joint operation by the Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana Police busted a Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terror module, seizing 2,900 kg of explosives, arms, and ammunition, foiling plans for potential large-scale attacks.
As Delhi remains on alert, the Red Fort blast has reignited concerns over urban terror networks, cross-border links, and the growing sophistication of extremist plots in India’s major cities.
