WASHINGTON – India National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister, Denis Manturov on Sunday discussed joint projects between the two countries in strategic sectors such as civil aviation, metallurgy, and the chemical industry.
Ajit Doval met with Denis Manturov in Moscow and they discussed a wide range of issues including military-technical cooperation between India and Russia.
“The parties discussed topical issues of #RussiaIndia military-technical cooperation, as well as the implementation of joint projects in other strategic sectors, including civil aircraft manufacturing, metallurgy, and the chemical industry,” the Russian embassy posted on X
Doval met Russia’s Secretary of the Security Council Sergei Shoigu on August 7.
Both sides explored ways to deepen strategic ties and enhance cooperation in multilateral forums.
They stressed the need for collaborative efforts ahead of this year’s bilateral summit, and exchanged views on Russia-India cooperation in multilateral forums, as well as key global security issues.
“On August 7, Secretary of Russia’s Security Council Sergey Shoigu held talks with India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Kumar Doval. The parties discussed ways to further strengthen the Russia-India special and privileged strategic partnership and emphasized the importance of joint efforts in preparation of the bilateral summit by the end of this year.
They discussed cooperation between Russia and India in multilateral formats and exchanged views on topical issues of international security,” the Russian Embassy in India posted on Telegram.
Russian President Vladimir Putin received Doval at the Kremlin, marked a significant moment in the evolving strategic partnership between New Delhi and Moscow.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephonic conversation, during which they discussed trade, economic, and investment cooperation.
Modi later described the call as “very good and detailed,” adding that he had thanked President Putin for briefing him on the latest developments in Ukraine.
“Had a very good and detailed conversation with my friend President Putin. I thanked him for sharing the latest developments on Ukraine. We also reviewed the progress in our bilateral agenda, and reaffirmed our commitment to further deepen the India-Russia Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership. I look forward to hosting President Putin in India later this year.” PM Modi said in a statement on X.
The development came after ongoing tensions between the US and India following the imposition of 50% tariffs on India for buying Russian oil.
Putin briefed the PM on the latest developments concerning Ukraine, as per a statement by the External Affairs Ministry.
They reviewed progress in the bilateral agenda, and reaffirmed their commitment to further deepen the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between India and Russia.
Modi invited President Putin to India later this year for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit.
