NSA Doval Meets Chinese FM, Confirms PM Modi’s SCO Visit

New Delhi, 19th Aug: National Security Advisor Ajit Doval has met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, a meeting that comes amid continuous efforts to improve relations between the two nations. The meeting was part of the 24th Special Representatives’ talks on the China-India boundary issue held in Delhi.
During the meeting, Doval emphasized the importance of peace and tranquility at the border, stating that both countries should approach bilateral relations with “new energy and momentum.” Doval said that the Kazan meeting between President Xi Jinping and PM Modi proved to be a turning point, leading to positive changes in mutual understanding and “unprecedented progress” in bilateral relations.
Wang Yi stated that the Kazan meeting paved the way for improving relations and properly addressing the border issue. Both sides agreed to strengthen regular border management and control to maintain peace and tranquility in the area. They also agreed to hold the 25th Special Representatives’ meeting in China next year.
During the talks, NSA Doval officially confirmed that Prime Minister Modi would visit China to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, which is scheduled for August 31 and September 1. This marks the first official confirmation of PM Modi’s trip to the Chinese city of Tianjin for the summit.
Wang Yi’s visit is seen as part of the ongoing efforts to restore relations that were severely strained following the 2020 Galwan Valley clash.
