New Delhi, 14th Feb: The Union Cabinet has approved the extension corridor of the Noida Metro Rail Project from Sector 142 to Botanical Garden, covering a length of 11.56 km with eight elevated stations.
The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Once operational, the Noida and Greater Noida region will have a combined metro network of 61.62 km.
Officials said the extension will improve public transport in key parts of Noida that currently lack efficient connectivity. The corridor will provide direct interchanges at Botanical Garden with the Blue Line and the Magenta Line, linking it to major parts of Delhi-NCR.
The project will connect important commercial hubs, IT and corporate offices, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and tourist spots across the city. These include business parks, major IT companies, universities, hospitals, and recreational areas.
The extension is expected to reduce traffic congestion by offering a reliable alternative to road transport. Officials said smoother traffic flow would reduce travel time and improve road safety.
The project is also expected to deliver environmental benefits by lowering carbon emissions compared to conventional fossil fuel-based transport.
Authorities said improved connectivity would boost productivity, support local businesses, and attract investment to areas near the new metro stations.
The expansion is also expected to improve access to public transport for a wider section of the population, reduce commuting time, and enhance the overall quality of life in the region.
