Patna, 28th Oct: Jan Suraaj founder and political strategist Prashant Kishor on Monday launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led Central government, remarking that no administrative exercise can rescue a party once the public sentiment turns against it. His comments came after the Election Commission announced the second phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across 12 States and Union Territories.

Taking a jibe at the government, Kishor said, “SIR was done in Bihar. What difference did it make? Was anyone’s name struck off? A few people did face difficulties. BJP can try all it wants — they might delete someone’s name, scare or bother people — but if people turn against you, do any SIR or FIR, there will be nobody to save you.”

The Election Commission’s fresh round of revision will cover Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar announced in a press conference in New Delhi.

According to the Commission, printing and training for the revision will take place from October 28 to November 3, followed by an Enumeration Phase till December 4. The Draft Electoral Rolls will be published on December 9, and a claims and objection period will run till January 8, 2026. Hearings and verification will follow till January 31, with final rolls published on February 7, 2026.

CEC Kumar clarified that separate orders for the Special Intensive Revision will be issued for Assam, given its distinct provisions under the Citizenship Act and the Assam Accord. “Under the supervision of the Supreme Court, the checking of citizenship there is about to be completed,” Kumar noted.

The SIR exercise, launched nationwide in June 2024, aims to ensure clean and updated voter rolls ahead of upcoming Assembly and General Elections.
