New Delhi, 31st Oct. The Government of India has issued a clarification regarding recent media reports claiming a shortage of Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP) in Punjab, asserting that such claims are misleading and devoid of factual accuracy.
As of October 29, 2024, the Centre has already supplied 92,000 Metric Tonnes (MT) of DAP, 18,000 MT of Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium (NPK) fertilizers, and 9,000 MT of Single Superphosphate (SSP) to Punjab. Additionally, the state currently has around 90,000 MT of DAP, 49,000 MT of NPK, and 76,000 MT of SSP available for farmers.
To further bolster supplies, the government plans to dispatch an additional 50,000 MT of DAP in the first week of November 2024. The domestic production of DAP and NPK fertilizers is currently operating at optimal levels, ensuring consistent availability for agricultural needs.
The government has also maintained stable fertilizer prices at ₹1350 for a 50 kg bag through two back-to-back cabinet decisions, aiming to keep fertilizers affordable for farmers.
While recent disruptions in DAP imports were caused by the ongoing Red Sea crisis, which has necessitated rerouting shipping routes, the Department of Fertilizers continues to monitor the situation closely. Effective coordination with the Ministry of Railways, State Government, Port Authorities, and Fertilizer Companies has been established to manage fertilizer availability efficiently.
Overall, the government reassures farmers that there is no cause for concern regarding fertilizer supplies for the Rabi 2024-25 cropping season.
