New Delhi, 29th Jan: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday interacted with CEOs and experts working in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) sector at his residence, Lok Kalyan Marg, underlining India’s push towards becoming self-sufficient in AI technology.
Aligned with the upcoming IndiaAI Impact Summit in February, the interaction focused on fostering strategic collaborations, showcasing AI innovations, and accelerating India’s AI mission goals. The CEOs expressed strong support for India’s ambition to achieve self-reliance in AI and acknowledged the government’s efforts to position India as a global AI leader.
The Prime Minister emphasised the need to embrace new technologies across all sectors to drive national growth. He urged the use of indigenous technology in key areas, stating that domestic innovation must form the backbone of India’s digital future.
Drawing a parallel with India’s success in digital public infrastructure, PM Modi said that the success of the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) demonstrates India’s technical prowess and that a similar model can be replicated in the AI domain.
Highlighting India’s strengths of scale, diversity and democracy, the Prime Minister said these factors have built global trust in India’s digital infrastructure. In line with his vision of ‘AI for All’, he stressed that India must not only create impact through its technology but also inspire the world.
The Prime Minister underlined the importance of building an AI ecosystem that is transparent, impartial and secure. He asserted that there should be no compromise on the ethical use of AI and called for a strong focus on data security, democratisation of technology, AI skilling and talent development. He said India’s AI ecosystem should reflect the nation’s values and character.
The high-level roundtable saw participation from CEOs of leading AI and technology companies including Wipro, TCS, HCL Tech, Zoho Corporation, LTI Mindtree, Jio Platforms Ltd, AdaniConnex, Nxtra Data and Netweb Technologies, along with experts from IIIT Hyderabad, IIT Madras and IIT Bombay.
Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw and Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Jitin Prasada were also present during the interaction.
