Patna, 31st Jan. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday strongly slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s remarks about the Bihar caste survey, accusing him of taking credit for something he did not do.
Kumar questioned the validity of Gandhi’s claim, stating, “Can there be a more nonsensical claim? Has he forgotten when the caste census happened? I conducted it in the presence of nine parties. In 2019-2020, I will discuss the caste census everywhere, from the assembly to public meetings. I even met with the Prime Minister. I took the initiative. The Congress was on the other side at that time. If someone tries to take false credit… Let it be.”
Gandhi had attacked Kumar, who recently left the RJD and Congress to rejoin the NDA, suggesting that Kumar felt trapped after the caste survey and sought an escape route with the BJP.
Kumar responded by emphasizing that there was no progress within the INDIA bloc for the upcoming elections. He stated, “I was trying so hard. They did not do anything. Until today, they have not decided how many seats each party will contest. That is why I left them and returned to my initial alliance. I will continue working for the people of Bihar.”
Kumar’s party, Janata Dal United, has accused the Congress of attempting to take control of the Opposition bloc. Senior JDU leader KC Tyagi claimed that the Congress disrupted the seat-sharing process and made unreasonable demands on allies.
Kumar also addressed comments made by his former deputy and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav regarding the work done by the JDU-RJD government after Kumar’s previous switch in 2022. Kumar highlighted the achievements of his government, stating, “We provided jobs despite previous claims that it was impossible. We implemented new policies in tourism, IT, and sports. The work accomplished in 17 months surpassed what was achieved in 17 years under BJP-JDU rule. We achieved historic progress during those 17 months.”
When asked about Yadav’s remarks, Kumar referred to the corruption and crime-ridden regime of the RJD under Lalu Prasad Yadav, stating, “How can we forget the days before 2005?”
