Patna, 28th Jan.
Nitish Kumar was on Sunday sworn in as the Chief Minister of Bihar for a record ninth time. This comes after he resigned as the Chief Minister of the RJD-JD(U) government.

The oath-taking ceremony was attended by Jitan Ram Manjhi, Chirag Paswan, Samrat Chaudhary, and JP Nadda.

Nitish Kumar’s last term as Chief Minister was in 2022 when he left the NDA and joined the RJD, Congress, and the Left alliance in Bihar.
Between 2022 and 2024, Nitish Kumar played a leading role in forming an opposition alliance to challenge the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He hosted the first meeting of the opposition parties in June 2023, which eventually adopted the name INDIA.

Along with Nitish Kumar, Samrat Choudhury and Vijay Sinha from the BJP also took the oath as Deputy Chief Ministers. Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) president Dr. Santosh Kumar Suman took an oath on Sunday and will also be a part of the new government. Nitish Kumar announced that Samrat Chaudhury and Vijay Kumar Sinha will serve as deputy CMs.

The RJD ministers have been removed from the cabinet overnight due to the changed political situation in Bihar.

Tejashwi Yadav stated that the JD(U) is finished and the game in Bihar is far from over.

Whereas, political strategist Prashant Kishor predicted that Nitish Kumar’s alliance with the BJP will be short-lived and Bihar will see further changes after the Lok Sabha election.

Akhilesh Yadav slammed Nitish Kumar for his betrayal and claimed that the BJP is at its weakest point.

Nitish Kumar first became Chief Minister in 2000, opposing the RJD and campaigning against Lalu Yadav. He broke away from the NDA in 2013 and joined the RJD in the 2015 election. In 2017, he left the RJD and returned to the NDA. In 2022, he left the NDA again and rejoined the RJD.

Nitish Kumar on Sunday explained his resignation by stating that things were not working out in the INDIA bloc.

The Congress said that they were aware of the situation in Bihar but did not comment on it earlier to protect the interests of the INDIA bloc. The Congress also denied JD(U)’s allegations of insulting Nitish Kumar and stated that if he wanted to stay, he could have, but he chose to join the NDA.

Mallikarjun Kharge of the Congress attempted to reach out to Nitish Kumar but was unsuccessful. Kharge claimed that Nitish Kumar’s switch was pre-planned and that he kept the Congress and RJD leadership in the dark.
