Nitin Gupta Takes Charge as NFRA Chairperson

New Executive Body of Full-Time Members Also Assumes Roles at Financial Reporting Authority

New Delhi, 24th July: Nitin Gupta, an IRS (IT:86) (Retd.) officer, officially assumed the charge of Chairperson of the National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA) on July 23, 2025.

He previously served as the Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) from June 2022 to June 2024, during which he was instrumental in integrating advanced technologies like artificial intelligence and big data analytics to enhance tax compliance and transparency. His leadership saw the direct tax-to-GDP ratio reach record levels and consistent year-on-year growth in tax revenues.

Alongside Shri Gupta, a new executive body of full-time members also assumed their positions. These include Smita Jhingran, IRS (IT:86) (Retd.), who previously served as a Full-Time Member at NFRA; P. Daniel, IDES (1989) (Retd.), former Secretary of the Central Vigilance Commission; and Sushil Kumar Jaiswal, IA&AS (1993) (Retd.), former Director General of Audit (Central Receipt).

Smita Jhingran’s prior tenure at NFRA was marked by her key role in aligning India’s auditing and accounting standards with global best practices and strengthening financial reporting and corporate governance. She also held senior positions in the Income Tax Department and served as Secretary of the Competition Commission of India (CCI).

P. Daniel, during his tenure as Secretary of the CVC, played a pivotal role in advancing the national agenda on vigilance awareness and anti-corruption initiatives across various government bodies, focusing on systemic improvements and enhancing transparency. He also held leadership roles in the Directorate General of Defence Estates (DGDE), implementing reforms in land record digitization.

Sushil Kumar Jaiswal brings extensive experience in auditing and accounting, having overseen audits of central revenue and tax departments as Director General of Audit (Central Receipts). His international experience includes leading internal audits in UN Peacekeeping Operations and supervising external audits of several UN agencies.

The Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, administered the Oaths of Office and Secrecy to the new Chairperson and Full-Time Members at a ceremony held at the Ministry on July 23, 2025.
