Srinagar, 15th Nov: Nine people were killed and 32 others injured after confiscated explosives stored at the Nowgam Police Station near Srinagar detonated on Friday night.

Officials said the majority of the victims were policemen and forensic experts who were examining explosive material recently transported from Faridabad, Haryana. The seized items included ammonium nitrate and other components recovered during an earlier operation.

Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat confirmed that the blast was “accidental” and urged the public not to speculate about the cause. “Any other speculation into the cause of this incident is unnecessary,” he stated.

The explosion has raised fresh concerns over the handling and storage of hazardous materials, occurring just days after a fatal car blast near the Red Fort in Delhi that claimed 13 lives and injured more than 20. Officials said investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
