Dharamsala, 5th Jan. Starting March 30, Gaggal Airport in Dharamsala will introduce new air services connecting the popular tourist destination with Noida, Jaipur, and Dehradun. This move is aimed at catering to the increasing number of visitors to Himachal Pradesh.
Currently, Gaggal Airport offers flights to Delhi, Chandigarh, and Shimla. With the addition of Noida, Jaipur, and Dehradun, air connectivity will be further expanded. The Noida International Airport in Jewar is expected to commence operations by April 2025.
Dhirendra Singh, director of Gaggal Airport, shared that the airport will operate two shifts from March 30, ensuring uninterrupted flights from sunrise to sunset. The airport currently runs six daily flights, a number expected to rise to 10 during the summer months. To accommodate these additional flights, efforts are being made to increase staff and improve security measures with support from the state police.
Singh also discussed future expansion plans to allow larger aircraft, such as Airbus 320 and Boeing models, to land at Gaggal. This upgrade will facilitate direct connections to major metro cities like Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Ahmedabad, making travel more affordable for passengers.
There is also growing demand to connect Gaggal Airport with Amritsar and Buddhist pilgrimage sites, including Bodh Gaya in Bihar. Recently, the Dalai Lama, who resides in McLeodganj near Dharamsala, voiced support for expanding the airport’s connections to other key Buddhist destinations.
