New Delhi, 13th March: Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia on Thursday chaired a meeting of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) to review the role of financial institutions in strengthening entrepreneurship and economic growth in the Northeast.
During the meeting, Scindia and Members of Parliament discussed the expanding role of the North Eastern Development Finance Corporation (NEDFi) as a key institution supporting enterprise development across the region.
The discussions focused on how NEDFi is helping boost entrepreneurship, bridge credit gaps for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), catalyse private investment and support livelihoods in the northeastern states.
Scindia noted that the institution is playing an increasingly important role as a structural enabler of enterprise growth, particularly in sectors where access to finance remains a challenge.
The committee also reviewed initiatives aimed at expanding the reach of NEDFi’s financial support programmes, especially for small entrepreneurs and emerging enterprises in the region.
Officials highlighted efforts to diversify financial assistance for small businesses, strengthen innovation linkages and encourage new investment opportunities.
The minister emphasised that promoting entrepreneurship will be critical for the long-term economic transformation of the Northeast, often referred to as the “Ashtalakshmi states.”
He said strengthening institutions such as NEDFi will help ensure that innovation, enterprise development and local entrepreneurship become key drivers of growth and employment across the region.
