Patna, 8th Nov: Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan has asserted that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Bihar is stronger and more united than ever, expressing confidence that the coalition will deliver a record performance in the ongoing assembly elections.
Speaking to NDTV while en route to a campaign rally, Paswan said, “The NDA was divided in 2020. Upendra Kushwaha ji and I contested separately. Despite that, and despite a united Mahagathbandhan, we still formed the government, though by a thin margin. Today, there is a united NDA and a divided Mahagathbandhan. We will have a walkover even in difficult seats due to vote splits in RJD.”
The 43-year-old leader claimed he has received positive feedback from the 14 constituencies that voted in the first phase last week. “Under Nitish Kumar’s leadership, NDA’s best performance was in 2010. This time, I am confident we will surpass that record. I believe I will win all 29 seats LJP (Ram Vilas) is contesting,” he said.
Paswan also addressed his earlier criticism of Bihar’s law-and-order situation, calling it a “sign of a responsible alliance partner.” In July, he had expressed concern over rising crime rates, remarking that he “felt bad” supporting a regime where lawlessness was visible.
“You must say where you are going wrong and what needs to be improved. If I remain a ‘yes man’, it will hurt the alliance. My responsibility is to be the voice of the masses. Constructive criticism helps governance improve,” Paswan added.
The Union Minister claimed that his remarks led to corrective action, saying the administration has since become more alert. “There was a time when crime was frequent; that has come under control. Even one incident is concerning, but the situation has improved,” he said.
Paswan, son of late political stalwart Ram Vilas Paswan, has emerged as one of the key campaigners for the NDA in Bihar this election, rallying support across constituencies where the alliance hopes to consolidate votes amid divisions in the opposition ranks.
