Puducherry, 21st March: The ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Friday finalised its seat-sharing arrangement for the upcoming Assembly elections in Puducherry, outlining a clear division among alliance partners.

Under the agreement, the All India NR Congress (AINRC) will contest 16 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will field candidates in 10 constituencies.

The remaining four seats will be contested by alliance partners AIADMK and Lakshia Jananayaga Katchi, with two seats each.

The pact was finalised following a key बैठक between Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy.

Addressing reporters after the meeting, Mandaviya expressed confidence in the alliance’s prospects, stating that the NDA would form the government under Rangasamy’s leadership.

Polling for the 30-member Puducherry Assembly is scheduled for April 9, while counting will take place on May 4 along with results for other poll-bound states.

In the 2021 Assembly elections, AINRC had contested 16 seats and won 10, while the BJP secured six victories out of nine contested seats. The AIADMK failed to win any of the five seats it fought. The Congress and DMK had won six seats each.

With a strong alliance structure and past electoral performance, the NDA is aiming to retain power in the Union Territory in the upcoming polls.
