Lucknow, 11th March: The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested a 24-year-old Indian Navy Lance Naik on charges of allegedly spying for Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and sharing sensitive information related to naval assets.

The accused has been identified as Adarsh Kumar alias Lucky, a resident of Chitapur village in Agra district.

According to officials, the arrest was made on March 10 following intelligence inputs indicating that an individual had established contact with a Pakistan-based ISI handler and was involved in espionage activities targeting India.

A senior official said the ATS launched a detailed investigation after receiving information about the suspected contact with the Pakistani intelligence agency.

“The UP ATS received information suggesting that the suspect had been communicating with the ISI and passing on sensitive information. Acting on these inputs, the ATS initiated a detailed investigation and placed the suspect under electronic as well as physical surveillance,” the official said.

During the probe, investigators confirmed the identity of the suspect as Adarsh Kumar, son of Balveer Singh, who was serving as a Lance Naik in the Indian Navy and posted at the Southern Naval Command in Kochi.

Authorities said the investigation revealed that the accused had been in contact with an ISI agent for some time and allegedly maintained regular communication with the handler.

Officials also claimed that Kumar transferred money from his bank account to the handler and shared photographs and information related to strategically important naval warships.

Security agencies believe that the information shared could have serious national security implications, as it involved sensitive details about naval assets.

After gathering evidence and confirming his alleged involvement in espionage activities linked to the Pakistani intelligence network, the UP ATS arrested him and produced him before a court.

The court subsequently remanded the accused to judicial custody.

Investigators are now examining the extent of information shared, financial transactions and digital communication records, as well as devices recovered from the accused.

Authorities are also probing whether any other individuals were involved in the espionage network and how long the contact between the accused and the ISI handler had continued.
