Guwahati, 7th Jan: The National Textiles Ministers’ Conference 2026 will begin on January 8 in Guwahati, organised by the Ministry of Textiles in collaboration with the Government of Assam. The two-day conference, themed “India’s Textiles: Weaving Growth, Heritage & Innovation”, aims to chart a roadmap for positioning India as a global textile manufacturing hub by 2030.
The inaugural session will be attended by Union Minister of Textiles Shri Giriraj Singh, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, and Minister of State for Textiles Shri Pabitra Margherita, along with senior officials from States and Union Territories. An exhibition and pavilion highlighting India’s textile innovation, heritage and manufacturing capabilities will also be inaugurated.
The conference will feature sessions on infrastructure and investment, expanding textile exports, raw materials and fibres, technical textiles, sustainability, and the promotion of handlooms and handicrafts. Flagship initiatives such as PM Mega Integrated Textile Regions and Apparel (PM MITRA) Parks and integrated value-chain development will be discussed in detail.
A special conclave focusing on strengthening the textile sector of the North-Eastern region will also be held, highlighting silk, handloom, handicrafts and bamboo-based textiles, with emphasis on Eri, Muga and Mulberry silk, women-led enterprises and market access.
The conference is expected to strengthen Centre–State collaboration and lay the foundation for a competitive, sustainable and inclusive textile ecosystem in the country.
