New Delhi, 10th July:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday extended warm wishes to the nation on the auspicious occasion of Guru Purnima, a festival that celebrates the sacred bond between gurus and disciples, deeply rooted in India’s spiritual and academic traditions.

Taking to social media, PM Modi paid tribute to all spiritual and academic mentors who, he said, play a vital role in guiding people from ignorance to enlightenment. The day, also known as Vyasa Purnima, commemorates the birth anniversary of sage Veda Vyasa, the legendary author of the Mahabharata and compiler of the Vedas.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also greeted citizens and reflected on the timeless significance of the guru-shishya parampara in Indian civilisation. “On the auspicious occasion of Guru Purnima, I pay my respects to all teachers. In Indian culture, the guru-disciple relationship is not only a medium of education and initiation but also a lifelong guide,” Shah wrote on X.

Highlighting the role of gurus in nation-building, Shah added, “Throughout our history, gurus have always worked to instil moral values, knowledge, conduct, culture, and a sense of loyalty towards the motherland in their disciples.”

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, himself a spiritual figure, also offered heartfelt greetings. “By the grace of the Guru, the disciple progresses from ignorance to self-realisation, from darkness to light,” he posted on X. “With heartfelt reverence, we honour the great Gurus who shape the disciple’s personality with values, service, and truth, connecting them to the highest ideals of life.”

Yogi Adityanath also paid homage at the samadhis of his revered gurus, Mahant Avaidyanath and Mahant Digvijaynath, underscoring his spiritual lineage and the deep personal meaning the day holds for him.

Observed by Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, and Jains, Guru Purnima was marked across the country with traditional rituals and spiritual fervour. Devotees participated in Guru puja, visited temples, and expressed gratitude to their mentors, both spiritual and academic, for their guidance and wisdom.

From quiet meditations in ashrams to vibrant ceremonies in educational institutions, the day brought together people from all walks of life to honour the transformative role of teachers and mentors in shaping lives and values.
