Dehradun, 22nd Feb.
Acting against the fugitive individuals implicated in the Haldwani violence, the Nainital police have attached the properties of six accused, including the alleged mastermind Abdul Malik and his son. The police initiated the seizure of the absconding suspects’ assets on Friday under Section 83 of the CrPC, pertaining to the attachment of property of persons evading law enforcement.

Furthermore, the law enforcement authorities have intensified their crackdown on the perpetrators, with an additional 14 rioters apprehended in connection with the case. The total number of arrests has now surged to 58. Additionally, the police confiscated a firearm magazine and petrol bombs from the possession of the newly arrested individuals.

Emphasizing the commitment to justice, senior superintendent of police (SSP) Prahlad Meena stated, “On the basis of CCTV footage and other evidence, we have arrested 14 more rioters for their role in Haldwani violence.”

While the situation in Banbhoolpura is gradually returning to normalcy, with curfew restrictions lifted from most parts of the town, the administration continues to maintain vigilance. The 24-hour curfew remains limited to a 100-meter perimeter surrounding the recently liberated land, with night curfew enforced solely in areas under the Banbhoolpura police station jurisdiction.

In a bid to crack down on illegal activities associated with the accused, the Nainital administration has revoked the licenses of vehicles registered in their names for mining purposes in the Gola river in Ramnagar. Additionally, plans are underway to establish a day-care center for the children of laborers engaged in mining activities, aimed at fostering creativity and deterring involvement in criminal pursuits.

Amidst the developments, allegations have surfaced regarding the political affiliations of the arrested suspects. The Uttarakhand BJP has accused Maukeen Saifi, one of the detainees, of having ties to the Congress party. However, these claims have been refuted by Mathura Dutt Joshi, the state Congress vice-president (organisation), who asserted that the accused had been expelled from the Youth Congress unit long ago.
