Dwarka, 18th Feb: The mother of a 23-year-old biker killed in a road accident allegedly caused by an underage driver in Delhi has refused to accept an apology from the accused’s family, saying no expression of regret can bring her son back.
Inna Makan’s son, Sahil Dhaneshra, died on February 3 after his motorcycle collided head-on with a Mahindra Scorpio SUV in Dwarka. The vehicle was allegedly being driven by a 17-year-old boy.
Responding to a public apology issued by the teen’s father, Makan said her life had been shattered. She questioned what the apology meant after her son’s death and said her world could not return to normal.
Sahil, who was preparing to leave for the United Kingdom for a postgraduate course, died on the spot in the accident. The minor driver was sent to a correctional home and later released temporarily to appear for his Class 10 board examinations.
A video reportedly shot by the accused’s sister, who was seated in the co-driver’s seat, has led to allegations that the siblings were filming a reel at the time of the crash.
Makan, a single mother, said her entire life had revolved around her son. She said she now plans to wind up her real estate business and focus on seeking justice.
The father of the accused, who runs a commercial vehicles business, said he was not in the city at the time of the accident and returned immediately after being informed. He expressed regret over the incident and described it as a mistake.
He said he was unaware that his 17-year-old son had been driving the SUV and confirmed that the boy did not possess a driving licence. He also said the teenager was a good student with high attendance and multiple academic awards, and was in shock after the incident.
The case has sparked widespread outrage, once again raising concerns over underage driving and road safety enforcement.
