Mumbai, 1st Nov: The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance—comprising the Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP (Sharad Pawar)—along with the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), held a massive protest march in Mumbai on Saturday against alleged irregularities in the voter list, which the Opposition claims are benefiting the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The protest, titled “Satyacha Morcha” (March for Truth), began at Fashion Street in South Mumbai and moved towards the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters. The rally saw participation from senior political leaders including former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar, MNS president Raj Thackeray, and Congress leaders Balasaheb Thorat, Naseem Khan, and Satej Patil.
The leaders are set to address a public meeting at the culmination of the march, highlighting alleged discrepancies in the voter list such as multiple entries, wrongful deletions, and fake additions. The Opposition has accused the Election Commission of India (ECI) of failing to act on these complaints and insisted that local body polls in Maharashtra should not be conducted until the voter rolls are corrected.
NCP MP Supriya Sule and Congress leader Bhai Jagtap also joined thousands of party workers in the protest. Raj Thackeray, accompanied by senior MNS leader Bala Nandgaonkar, boarded a local train from Dadar to Churchgate, keeping his earlier appeal for supporters to use public transport.
The joint demonstration marks a rare show of unity among Maharashtra’s major Opposition parties as they ramp up their campaign against the BJP ahead of the upcoming civic elections.
