Mumbai, 5th Sept: Just a day before the grand Ganesh Visarjan 2025, Mumbai Police was put on high alert after the Traffic Control Room received a bomb threat via its official WhatsApp number on Friday, warning of massive explosions planned on Anant Chaturdashi.
According to police, the message claimed that 34 human bombs had been planted in 34 vehicles across the city, with plans to use 400 kg of RDX. The threat, purportedly issued by a group identifying itself as ‘Lashkar-e-Jihadi’, also alleged that 14 Pakistani terrorists had infiltrated India.
“Mumbai Traffic Police received threats on their official WhatsApp number. The message claimed a major blast would shake the entire city,” police said, adding that all security agencies are on alert.
The police appealed to citizens not to believe in rumours and report any suspicious activities immediately. Security has been stepped up across Maharashtra, with increased deployment near crowded areas, procession routes, and major Ganesh pandals.
The threat comes at a sensitive time as Ganeshotsav concludes on September 6 with the Ganesh Visarjan ceremony. The city is expected to witness lakhs of devotees taking part in processions, with special focus on the iconic Lalbaugcha Raja pandal, which continues to draw massive crowds.
Earlier this week, Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani and Reliance Foundation Founder-Chairperson Nita Ambani visited Lalbaugcha Raja to offer prayers.
Mumbai Police said investigations are underway into the origin of the threat, with cyber teams tracing the sender.
