Bhopal, 12th July. People are experiencing difficulties due to the nationwide spike in tomato prices. In this regard, the opposition is relentless in its attacks on the government. Meanwhile, in Madhya Pradesh, Congress MLA Kalpana Verma demonstrated in a unique way in response to rising tomato prices. She entered the assembly wearing a tomato and chili garland and was spotted lashing out at the BJP government.
She slammed the BJP’s central government and the Shivraj government, claiming that “sisters are troubled from all sides,” and that “dear sister’s 1000 rupees are going only to buy tomatoes and vegetables, which I oppose.” The public is worried about the increasing prices of vegetables, there is no use of such schemes.
Following the Congress MLA’s protest, MP government minister Bhupendra Singh responded. He claimed that the opposition never discusses development and has no issue with it because the Congress has nothing to do with development. Regarding rising prices, he stated that tomatoes have gotten expensive not only in Madhya Pradesh, but throughout the country; tomatoes are also expensive in Rajasthan, where the Congress party is in power. Raising the question, he said whether it is available there for free?
He further said that tomato production has been hampered by rain, that it is a seasonal vegetable, and that seasonal inflation exists. However, Congress is unconcerned.
At this time, there has been an upsurge in tomato rates across the country. The price of a tomato in Bhopal, the state capital of Madhya Pradesh, ranges between Rs.140 and Rs.160.
