New Delhi, 5th June: Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday announced that the Monsoon Session of Parliament will commence on July 21 and continue till August 12, marking the second session of the year following a gap of over three months.
Both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha are scheduled to convene on July 21, with the session expected to witness intense debates, particularly from the Opposition, which had been demanding a special session to discuss Operation Sindoor—India’s military response to terror infrastructure across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
The decision to hold the Monsoon session as per the regular calendar comes after the Budget Session, which began on January 31 and concluded on April 4 with both Houses adjourned sine die. That was the first session of Parliament in 2025.
Despite calls for an earlier discussion, the Centre has opted to maintain the standard legislative calendar, choosing not to convene a special session for Operation Sindoor. However, the topic is likely to dominate parliamentary proceedings once the session begins.
The Monsoon session is traditionally a crucial legislative window, and several key bills and issues are expected to be tabled for discussion during this period.
