Modi, South Korean President focuses on boosting economic ties

WASHINGTON – Prime Minister Narendra Modi Saturday met with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen bilateral relations.

The meeting marked the second between the two leaders this year, underscoring the growing momentum in their Special Strategic Partnership.

“We exchanged perspectives to further deepen our economic and investment linkages,” PM Modi said in a post on handle X, highlighted the focus on boosting trade and investment ties.

The meeting is the efforts to enhance cooperation in areas like technology, defense, and infrastructure. India and South Korea have been working to diversify their trade and investment portfolios, with Seoul seeking to increase its stake in India’s growing market.

The leaders discussed ways to take their partnership to the next level, building on existing agreements like the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). Modi and Lee emphasized the importance of collaboration in emerging technologies, including semiconductors and renewable energy.

The meeting reflects India’s growing engagement with key partners in the Indo-Pacific region, as it seeks to bolster its economic and strategic interests.
