Modi hails Sri Lanka PM Harini Amarasuriya, vows to strengthen bilateral ties

WASHINGTON – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday greeted Sri Lankan Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya during her visit to India expressed confidence that the trip would inject fresh momentum into the longstanding and multifaceted relationship between India and Sri Lanka.
He recalled his own State visit to Sri Lanka in April, during which he held productive talks with President Anura Kumara Disanayaka.
Modi highlighted the breadth of cooperation between the two nations.
“Our discussions covered a wide spectrum of areas, reflecting the depth of our partnership,” Modi said as quoted in an official press release.
During their meeting, the leaders focused on enhancing collaboration in education, technology, innovation, and development, alongside addressing the welfare of fishermen—an important community shared by both countries.
He emphasized the special cultural and historical ties binding the two neighbors, Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to working closely with Sri Lanka on their shared development journey.
“India remains dedicated to supporting Sri Lanka’s progress and prosperity,” he stated.
He conveyed his warm regards to President Disanayaka, Modi expressed anticipation for ongoing high-level engagements.
The visit symbolizes a renewed chapter in India-Sri Lanka relations, fostering deeper cooperation and mutual growth, MEA said in a press release issued.
