Modi arrives in France to co-chair AI Action Summit

WASHINGTON – India Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday arrived in France for a three-day visit at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron, according to the PMO and media reported

Modi will co-chair the Artificial Intelligence Action Summit with Macron on February 11.

The AI Action Summit, bring together world leaders and global tech CEOs to serve as a platform for discussions on a collaborative approach to AI technology for innovation and the broader public good.

Modi and Macron will hold bilateral meetings including addressing the India-France CEOs Forum.

They will hold discussions in both restricted and delegation-level formats to strengthen strategic cooperation.

He will visit the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor project, where India is part of a consortium working to develop sustainable energy solutions.

India and France are in talks to enhance civil nuclear cooperation through small modular reactors as part of a shared commitment to green energy and climate action.

Both nations aim to deepen trade and investment ties, beyond defense collaboration, particularly in sectors such as clean energy, emerging technologies, and aviation.

France has become a key foreign direct investor in India, with over 1,000 French companies operating in the country.

France ranked as India’s 11th largest foreign investor, as of December 2023, with cumulative investments totaled $10.84 billion since April 2000.

Modi embarked on a pivotal diplomatic journey to France and the United States, focused on strategic partnerships in AI, defence, and trade.

Macron and Modi will travel to Marseille to inaugurate the first Indian Consulate in France and visit the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor project.

The bilateral segment of his visit, Mr Modi said, will provide an opportunity to review the progress on the 2047 Horizon Roadmap for India-France strategic partnership along with ”my friend” French President Emmanuel Macron.

”We will also travel to the historic French city of Marseille to inaugurate the first Indian Consulate in France and also visit the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor project, in which India is a member of the consortium of partner countries including France, to harness energy for the global good. I will also pay tribute to the Indian soldiers who laid down their lives during World Wars I and II at the Mazargues War Cemetery,” he said.

They will announce small modular reactors, boosting civil nuclear cooperation. India-France Triangular Development Cooperation initiative is to be launched.

Both nations will declare 2026 the India-France Innovation Year and launch a logo.

Mr. Modi will travel on a two-day visit to the United States at the invitation of President Donald Trump.

He will visit the US from February 12 to 14 and will hold a bilateral meeting with US President Trump and interact with business leaders and members of the Indian community, according to media reports.
