New Delhi, 25th Feb. The Ministry of Women and Child Development (WCD) and the Ministry of AYUSH have been collaborating and coordinating efforts in order to leverage traditional knowledge, promote wellness through collaborative yoga protocols, and promote diet diversity through the consumption of healthful, locally grown foods.
Tomorrow, February 26, 2024, at Vigyan Bhawan, a national event will be held to further strengthen this collaboration. It will be chaired by Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani, Union Minister of Women and Child Development and Minority Affairs, and Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of AYUSH and Ports, Shipping, and Waterways.
The Ministry of Women and Child Development and the Ministry of AYUSH will sign an agreement during the event to improve the nutritional status of teenage girls in five Utkarsh Districts.
In order to support women’s and children’s holistic well-being, this integration aims to incorporate modern medical systems and techniques while leveraging the benefits of traditional healthcare systems like Ayurveda.
A key element of the Ministry of Women and Child Development’s Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0 (POSHAN 2.0) program is nutrition solutions that are based on traditional knowledge and practices. This program’s interventions and strategies work with important Ministries, Departments, States, and Union Territories to combat malnutrition through a multi-sectoral approach. The Common Core of POSHAN 2.0 focuses on wellness through AYUSH, which aims towards malnutrition deficiencies as well as maternal nutrition, infant and young child feeding norms, and treatment of MAM/SAM children. This helps reduce stunting, wasting, anemia, and low birth weight. Significant behavior change communication initiatives are also carried out in conjunction with national community celebrations like Poshan Maah and Poshan Pakhwada.
