Srinagar, 8th Feb. PDP leader Iltija Mufti on Saturday claimed that she and her mother, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti, had been placed under house arrest.
In a social media post on X, Iltija stated that their residence gates had been locked, preventing them from stepping out. “My mother and I both have been placed under house arrest. Our gates have been locked up because she was meant to visit Sopore where Waseem Mir was shot dead by the army,” she wrote.
She further alleged that she was stopped from visiting Kathua, where she had planned to meet the family of Makhan Din. “I intended to visit Kathua to meet Makhan Din’s family and am not being allowed to even move out. Nothing has changed in Kashmir even after elections. Now even comforting the families of victims is being criminalized,” she added.
The alleged house arrest comes after the recent killing of truck driver Waseem Mir in Sopore in an army firing incident on Wednesday. The authorities have yet to comment on the Muftis’ claims.
