Hyderabad, 21st Dec: Vice-President of India C. P. Radhakrishnan on Sunday said meditation is vital for inner peace, emotional balance and social harmony, asserting that true national development must also nurture spiritual well-being.

Addressing World Meditation Day celebrations at Kanha Shanti Vanam in Telangana, the Vice-President described meditation as a universal practice that transcends cultural, geographical and religious boundaries. He said meditation offers a path to mental clarity, emotional stability and inner transformation, making it increasingly relevant in modern life.

Radhakrishnan recalled India’s role in co-sponsoring the United Nations General Assembly resolution declaring December 21 as World Meditation Day, calling it global recognition of meditation’s power to promote mental well-being and spiritual growth. He also appreciated Daaji Kamlesh D. Patel for his contribution to spreading meditation across the world.

Highlighting India’s civilisational legacy, the Vice-President said meditation in Bharat has long been regarded as an ancient science of the mind and spirit, nurtured by sages and seers. Referring to the Bhagavad Gita and the Tamil spiritual classic Thirumantiram, he said mastery over the mind through meditation leads to inner harmony, ethical living and self-realisation.

The Vice-President underlined that meditation has a crucial role in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047. He said development should not be measured only in economic terms, but must also include emotional resilience and spiritual upliftment to build a peaceful and compassionate society.

Referring to the Mission LiFE initiative, Radhakrishnan said meditation cultivates mindfulness, responsibility and harmony with nature, which are essential for sustainable living. He also praised Kanha Shanti Vanam for adopting eco-friendly practices and promoting holistic well-being.

Calling upon citizens to integrate meditation into daily life, the Vice-President urged individuals, families and communities to lead by example and inspire future generations to adopt practices that foster balance, peace and harmony.

Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, Telangana Minister D. Sridhar Babu, and other dignitaries, along with thousands of participants, were present at the meditation session.
