Satara, 14th Dec: An alleged MD drug manufacturing unit was busted in Maharashtra’s Satara district on Saturday following a highly confidential operation conducted by the Mumbai Crime Branch, officials said.
The operation was carried out near a bungalow in Sawari village, close to the Bamnoli tourist area, where police teams had been stationed since midnight. During the raid, more than 10 kilograms of MD drugs were seized, and three persons, including a local resident, were taken into custody.
According to sources, those involved in manufacturing the drugs are suspected to be from West Bengal. Investigators revealed that the illegal unit was operating from a buffalo shed, which was later destroyed during the action.
Police are also probing the logistical support network linked to the operation. Sources claimed that food supplies for the workers at the alleged manufacturing unit were arranged from Tejas Hotel, owned by a Shiv Sena leader from the Eknath Shinde faction in Thane. However, police have not indicated any direct involvement of the hotel owner in the drug racket, stating that verification is still underway.
The development has triggered political reactions, particularly as the Maharashtra Assembly’s Winter Session is currently underway in Nagpur. State Congress president Harshwardhan Sapkal raised questions on social media, demanding clarification from the Home Department. He sought to know whether the property used for drug manufacturing had links to individuals close to Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and whether other illegal activities were being carried out at the site.
So far, there has been no official response from the state government. The Mumbai Crime Branch said the investigation is ongoing and further arrests and disclosures are likely as the probe progresses.
