Guwahati, 2nd Jan. The Assam cabinet has made the decision to implement a written multiple choice questions (MCQ) test and computer proficiency test for the selection of anganwadi supervisors. This move aims to ensure that well-qualified candidates are chosen for the position.
During the first meeting of the state cabinet in 2024, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma presided over the approval of the appointment of anganwadi supervisors. These appointments will be made from among in-service anganwadi workers under general area districts, accounting for 25% of the total supervisor posts, according to an official statement.
The cabinet has also decided to eliminate the upper age limit for anganwadi workers who wish to apply for the selection processes. These processes will be conducted at the state level and overseen by the Director of Women and Child Development.
Furthermore, the cabinet has approved a tariff subsidy of Rs 200 crore for the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL). This subsidy will provide financial relief to 59 lakh below poverty line (BPL) and domestic consumers in the state.
In addition, the cabinet has resolved to settle land-related cases in favor of 1.194 indigenous, landless families in 16 districts across urban and rural areas under the Mission Basundhara initiative. The timeline for the disposal of cases under this program has also been extended until January 15.
Lastly, the cabinet has decided to submit a proposal to the Centre for the inclusion of the Madahi community in the Scheduled Tribe list of Assam.
