New Delhi, 2nd Aug: Dr. Mayank Sharma, a distinguished 1989-batch officer of the Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS), has assumed the office of Financial Advisor (Defence Services) on August 1, 2025. The appointment comes after a long and decorated career spanning over three decades, which included a recent tenure as the Controller General of Defence Accounts.

As Financial Advisor, a role considered a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the defence sector, Dr. Sharma will be responsible for providing a wide spectrum of financial services to the Defence Services. This includes offering financial advice, scrutinizing proposals, preparing the Defence Budget, and ensuring overall financial probity and efficiency in one of the government’s largest ministries.

Dr. Sharma’s extensive background in public service includes serving as Under Secretary, Deputy Secretary, and Joint Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat. He has also represented India on the international stage as the Alternate Permanent Representative at the UN Office on Drugs and Crime and at the International Anti-Corruption Academy. His career also features significant stints as Additional Commissioner in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and Deputy Director at AIIMS Delhi.

Despite his vast experience, Dr. Sharma’s tenure in this new role will be relatively short, as he is slated to retire from service on October 31, 2025.
