Jammu, 6th May. Several individuals were taken into custody on Sunday as security forces initiated a large-scale search operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district after a terrorist attack on two IAF vehicles resulted in the death of one personnel.
Corporal Vikky Pahade of the Air Force was killed and four other air warriors were wounded in the terrorist attack in the Bakrabal (Sanai) area of Surankote tehsil in Poonch. Intelligence agencies suspect that the attack was carried out by a group of terrorists led by Abu Hamza, a foreign terrorist associated with LeT.
Authorities reported that in addition to AK assault rifles, the terrorists also utilized a US-made M4 carbine and steel bullets to inflict maximum damage.
The four injured air warriors were transported by air to the Northern Command Hospital in Udhampur. One was reported to be in critical condition, while the other three were stable, as per medical professionals.
In response to the attack, security forces, including local police, army, and paramilitary forces, launched an extensive search operation on Sunday morning in various areas of Poonch to locate the terrorists. The Army also conducted aerial surveillance with a helicopter, and Para Commandos were deployed in the search operation.
ADGP, Jammu, Anand Jain, along with senior army and intelligence agency officials, visited the site of the ambush in the Surankote area.
According to police reports, Abu Hamza is also responsible for the murder of government employee Mohammad Razaq, 40, on April 22 in the Kunda Top village of the Thanamandi area in Rajouri district.
Razaq was employed in the Social Welfare Department, while his brother, Mohammad Tahir Choudhary, serves in the Territorial Army. The terrorists had intended to kill the soldier, but when he managed to escape, they killed his brother instead, police stated.
Police have offered a cash reward of 10 lakh rupees to anyone providing information that leads to the capture of this foreign terrorist believed to be operating in the densely forested regions of Poonch and Rajouri districts.
