Mumbai, 17th Feb.
A devastating fire engulfed a section of Govandi’s Baiganwadi area in Mumbai early this morning, resulting in massive damage to at least 15 shops and residential structures. The blaze, which erupted at approximately 4 am, has left a trail of destruction, although fortunately, no injuries have been reported thus far.

According to officials, the fire primarily affected around 15 commercial units, locally referred to as “galas,” situated on the ground floor, along with several houses on the first floor. Eyewitnesses observed residents scrambling to extinguish the flames using makeshift measures, including buckets of water. The fire affected various materials, including electric wiring, household items, AC sheets, plastic sheets, LPG cylinders, wooden planks, and furniture.

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire, which remains undetermined at this time. This incident follows closely after another fire on Friday, which damaged over 20 two-wheelers in an open parking lot in suburban Borivali, underscoring the persistent challenges of fire safety in densely populated urban areas.

Efforts are underway to assess the extent of the damage and provide necessary assistance to those affected by the fire.
