Maratha Reservation Committees at Work, No Community Misled: CM Shinde

GG News Bureau
Mumbai, 17th Sept. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde assured on Tuesday that committees are diligently working on the sage soyare notification for Maratha reservations and emphasized that the government will not mislead any community.

His comments come amid ongoing protests by activist Manoj Jarange, who has launched his sixth indefinite fast demanding reservation for Marathas under the OBC category. Jarange insists on implementing a draft notification recognizing Kunbis as ‘sage soyare’ (blood relatives) of Marathas and calls for consideration of historical gazettes for reservation.

Shinde, speaking at Marathwada Liberation Day in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, highlighted that the Justice Shinde committee, led by retired Justices Sandeep Shinde and Sunil Shukre, is working on the issue. He confirmed that Kunbi certificates are being issued and praised the government for granting 10% reservation to Marathas without affecting other communities’ quotas.

“The government will not mislead anyone. All actions will be within the legal framework,” Shinde stated. He urged the Maratha community to cooperate, and questioned opposition parties about their previous handling of the issue.

Regarding seat-sharing for upcoming state elections, Shinde mentioned that discussions are ongoing.
