Imphal, 13th Sept: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated projects worth over ₹1,200 crore in Imphal on Friday, describing Manipur as “the crown jewel adorning the crest of Mother India” and pledging continued efforts to ensure peace and development in the state.
Addressing a public gathering, the Prime Minister announced the launch of the Manipur Urban Roads Project and the Manipur Infotech Development Project, noting that these initiatives will boost infrastructure, create jobs and “infuse new energy into Manipur’s bright future.” Modi highlighted that Manipur’s growth rate, once under one percent, has accelerated significantly since 2014.
Reiterating the Centre’s commitment to peace, he said, “We must continue to take Manipur forward on the path of sustained peace and development,” and confirmed approval for 7,000 houses for displaced families along with a special assistance package of about ₹3,000 crore, including ₹500 crore for rehabilitation.
The Prime Minister praised Manipur’s heritage and sporting achievements, recalling its role in India’s freedom struggle and announcing further support under the Khelo India scheme and a new National Sports Policy. Four new Ima Markets, traditional women-led marketplaces, were also inaugurated to empower local women entrepreneurs.
Extending greetings to Nepal, Modi congratulated Smt. Sushila on becoming the first woman Prime Minister of Nepal’s interim government, expressing hope for “peace, stability and prosperity” in the neighbouring country.
Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and senior officials attended the ceremony where Modi inaugurated key facilities including the new Civil Secretariat, IT SEZ building, Police Headquarters, and new Manipur Bhavans in Delhi and Kolkata.
