Imphal, 15th June.
The Manipur government has announced a relief measure of ₹10,000 for each flood-hit family affected by Cyclone Remal, officials confirmed on Friday. Chief Minister N. Biren Singh chaired a Cabinet meeting where this decision was taken to provide immediate assistance to those impacted by the recent natural disaster.

In addition to the relief package, the council of ministers discussed various challenges confronting the state. They resolved to form a sub-committee dedicated to the rehabilitation and resettlement of internally displaced persons (IDPs) affected by ongoing ethnic violence, which has persisted for more than a year.

Officials disclosed that approximately 2 lakh individuals have been affected by the cyclone-induced floods, resulting in damage to over 24,000 houses across 348 villages and urban localities in eight districts. Heavy rainfall triggered by Cyclone Remal led to breaches in river embankments, causing widespread devastation. Tragically, the floods claimed three lives, and more than 434 hectares of crop area were adversely affected in various hill districts.

The government’s response aims to provide immediate relief to the affected families and address the broader challenges posed by the natural calamity and ongoing socio-economic issues in Manipur.
