Imphal/ Manipur,2nd February : Amidst a significant political churning, sources indicate that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is gearing up to stake a claim to form a popular government in Manipur. The state has been under President’s Rule since February 13, 2025, with the Legislative Assembly kept in suspended animation.

Meitei CM Likely, Say Sources

According to top sources, the next Chief Minister of Manipur will be from the Meitei community. While the former CM N. Biren Singh had resigned last year following ethnic unrest, the central leadership is reportedly looking for a face that can provide stability while ensuring the representation of the majority Meitei community. The final decision on the name remains with the party high command in New Delhi.

High-Level Meetings in the Capital

A flurry of political activity has shifted from Imphal to New Delhi. Almost all NDA legislators, including those from the BJP, NPP, and NPF, have been summoned to the national capital for crucial discussions.
The Deadline: With the tenure of President’s Rule set to expire on February 13, 2026, the BJP is keen to restore an elected government to avoid a further constitutional crisis.
