“Bodh-Sangam”, a programme on Indian Knowledge System (IKS) was organised by “Manikanchan – A Gauhati University Scholarium,” in Association with Gauhati University Research Scholars Association and Post Graduate Students Union, at P. D. Seminar Hall, Gauhati University, on March 10, 2026.
The programme featured a speech competition on the topic – “Indian Knowledge System Towards Viksit Bharat”, in which students from various colleges and Gauhati University participated.
The programme began with Gauhati University anthem “Jilikabo Luitor Paar,” in a spiritual ambience created with lightening of earthen lamp. This was followed by speech competition among college and university students.
Honourable Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University, Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta graced the technical session as Chief Guest and elaborated on importance of Indian Knowledge System. Prof. Mahanta urged students to take pride in Bharatiya sanskriti, and stressed that Krishna does not only reside in temples, rather Krishna is everywhere and resides in all of us, hence we must respect for all our fellow citizens.

The keynote address on the topic was delivered by Prof. Mukul Chandra Bora, Honourable Vice Chancellor, North Lakhimpur University.
Prof. Bora gave numerous practical examples from our traditional knowledge system and wisdom that has been followed by our people in Assam and elsewhere in Bharat, since thousands of years. He stated that to make Bharat a Viksit Nation, we all must be healthy, which can be done by following our traditional food and medicine system.

Guest of Honour, Prof. Amlendu Chakraborty, former Vice Chancellor of Rabindranath Tagore University, delivered address elucidating that taking pride in our Bharatiya languages, we must study our ancient scriptures like Veda, Upanishads, Purans, Ramayan, Bhawad Gita, which have a treasure house of wisdom that can lead to true happiness in lives.
Earlier, in her welcome address, Prof. Kalpana Bora, Vice-President, Manikanchan and programme coordinator Bodh-Sangam, elucidated that during 1AD -1700 AD, Bharat was largest economy which was based on our industry and trade, and before British colonised us, our literacy rate was 97%.
She also emphasised that Bharat is an ancient Nation and has a rich legacy of development in the fields of science, culture, spirituality, wisdom. All the dignitaries urged students to explore more about IKS, and make a perfect fusion of our ancient gyan-pragya-vigyan with modern knowledge, to make Bharat a Viksit Nation by 2047.
The programme was attended by faculty members, research scholars, students, officers and staff of Gauhati University, and concluded with Assam’s Jatiya Sangeet “O more punar desh.”
The programme successfully created inspiration among students to take pride in, and follow traditional knowledge system of Bharat in their lives and to serve the
Maatribhumi.
