Darbhanga, 29th Aug: The Bihar Police on Friday arrested Rafeeq alias Raja, who allegedly hurled abuses at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during a rally in poll-bound Darbhanga. A complaint had been lodged at Simri Police Station a day earlier after a video of the incident went viral on social media, triggering outrage.

The abusive remarks were made at an event organised by Congress leader Mohammad Naushad on Wednesday. Following the controversy, Naushad issued an apology, though he claimed he was not present when the incident took place.

The BJP launched a fierce attack on the Congress and RJD, accusing them of lowering political discourse. Union Home Minister Amit Shah called the incident “a stain on democracy” and said the Congress had stooped to a new low under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership.

BJP president JP Nadda also hit out at the opposition alliance, demanding apologies from Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav, saying: “This is a disregard for Bihar’s culture on Bihar’s soil. The two princes must apologise immediately.”

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar termed the incident “extremely shameful,” while several BJP leaders and chief ministers echoed the demand for an apology.

In response, Bihar Congress spokesman Asit Nath Tiwari countered that it was the BJP, not Congress, known for using abusive language, and claimed the incident reflected widespread resentment against the NDA government.
