New Delhi, 28th Feb.
The Congress party’s prospects in West Bengal have taken a serious knock ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The TMC, led by Mamata Banerjee, has declared that it will run a single campaign for each of West Bengal’s 42 Lok Sabha seats. Derek O’Brien, a senior leader of the Trinamool Congress, or TMC, made it very evident that his party will run for office in all 42 of West Bengal’s Lok Sabha seats. O’Brien made his remarks in the midst of rumors that the Congress and the Trinamool Congress would soon complete the seat agreement.

Alliance rumors were unsuccessful

It is noteworthy that over the past 24 hours, there have been reports from sources indicating that discussions about seat sharing between Mamata Banerjee and Congress have resumed. This development was regarded as a relief for Congress. It was also discovered that Mamata Banerjee has the authority to grant Congress five seats. Then again, it was also reported that discussions about granting Congress a mere two seats had taken place. In the midst of all of this, Congress was dealt another blow on Friday night.

TMC will contest elections on all 42 seats

According to a report, Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien has said that a few weeks ago, TMC Chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had said that TMC is going to contest elections on all 42 seats in the state. Apart from this, candidates will also be fielded from Tura seat of Assam and Meghalaya. There is still no change in this situation.” It is clear from this statement of TMC MP that Trinamool Congress will not contest the elections in West Bengal in alliance with Congress and is preparing to field candidates on all the 42 seats of the state.

TMC becomes a challenge for Congress

In the last one or two days, many positive news was coming out for the opposition alliance INDIA. First, the alliance between Congress and Samajwadi Party was finalized in UP, then the alliance between Congress and Aam Aadmi Party was almost finalized for Delhi, Haryana, Gujarat etc. An alliance between AAP and Congress can be announced in the next 24 hours. On the other hand, in Maharashtra also the distribution of seats between Mahavikas Aghadi has almost been decided.

In such a situation, even though the alliance with many parties has been finalized, Congress may get a shock if TMC enters the fray alone in West Bengal.

Elections may be announced next month

TMC faces BJP in West Bengal. In the last Lok Sabha elections, Trinamool Congress had won 22 seats while BJP had won 18 seats. However, there was not much difference in the vote percentage. TMC got 42% votes and BJP 40% votes. On the other hand, Congress could win only two seats in the last Lok Sabha elections. Apart from this, the left account was also not opened. Lok Sabha elections can be announced next month. At present, Election Commission officials are visiting various states and taking stock of the information and preparations related to the general elections. In such a situation, it is being said that the Election Commission can announce the general elections in the month of March.
