New Delhi, 27th Jan. In a letter to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge requested that she urge the relevant authorities to provide a safe journey for the “Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra,” which is traversing the state.
Regarding the Yatra, Kharge said in his letter that he had been informed that “some miscreants may foment trouble” in the near future. He speculated that this could be done to cause disruption to the yatra or paint the West Bengal government in a negative light. While the inaugural Bharat Jodo Yatra ended with a rally in Kashmir, it traveled the entire nation without any unpleasant occurrences. You are aware, though, that some miscreants have targeted the present Bharat Jodo Yatra in the states that border yours. Although this was done at the behest of politics, our cadre heroically handled it,” Kharge stated.

“Now the yatra is passing through Bengal over the next few days. I have been made aware that again some miscreants may foment trouble for the yatra. I am not sure if the intention may be to state administration in a bad light or disrupt the yatra,” he added.
Kharge was referring to the conflict in Assam between the administration of Himanta Biswa Sarma and the Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi. When hundreds of Congress workers were stopped outside Guwahati, Assam, during the yatra, they erupted into a major altercation with the police and smashed through barricades. Rahul Gandhi and other prominent Congressmen are the targets of another lawsuit. A heated verbal exchange between Sarma and Gandhi was also sparked by the altercation.
Prior to this, West Bengal Congress President Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury asserted that public gatherings associated with his party’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra were being prohibited by the Trinamool government. The Trinamool Congress, however, refuted the charge. In his letter on Friday, Kharge asked Banerjee to give the proper instructions to guarantee the Yatra’s safe transit through West Bengal and the participants’ safety, including Rahul Gandhi.
“I’m aware that the Gandhi family and you share very cordial relations and you would ensure that all security concerns would be addressed adequately,” he stated. “However, I thought it would be best if I could possibly write to you requesting the same.”
