New Delhi, 31st July. Maldivian Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal met his Indian counterpart, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, on Tuesday to discuss enhancing tourism collaboration and strengthening ties between the two nations. The meeting, which Faisal shared on social media, emphasized mutual growth and the enrichment of the tourism sectors in both countries.
“Pleased to meet with Hon’ble Tourism Minister Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat today. Our discussions focused on enhancing tourism collaboration and strengthening the ties between our two nations. Together, we look forward to fostering mutual growth and enriching our tourism sectors,” Faisal wrote in a post on X, accompanied by pictures of the meeting.
This meeting holds significance as it comes months after a social media backlash that saw the hashtag “Boycott Maldives” trending in response to disparaging remarks made against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Maldives remains one of India’s key maritime neighbors in the Indian Ocean Region, highlighting the importance of continued collaboration and strengthened bilateral relations.
The discussions between Faisal and Shekhawat are expected to pave the way for new initiatives and partnerships that will benefit both countries’ tourism industries, fostering economic growth and cultural exchange.
