New Delhi, 15th May: Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Wednesday announced a major boost for India’s northeastern states, revealing that the region is likely to attract fresh investments worth ₹2.5 to ₹3 lakh crore in the coming months. Terming it a “landmark opportunity” for the development of the Northeast, Scindia said the anticipated investments would significantly accelerate the region’s economic growth.
Speaking ahead of the Rising North-East Investors Summit 2025, scheduled for May 23–24 and to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Scindia revealed that his ministry had recently conducted nine roadshows that yielded investment commitments worth ₹1.12 lakh crore. He clarified that these were entirely new commitments and not part of any previously announced investments.
“We expect this figure to rise further by the end of the summit,” Scindia said, underlining the momentum gained in engaging top investors for the Northeast region.
The summit, aimed exclusively at unlocking economic potential in the eight northeastern states, has already garnered interest from six major industrial houses and public sector enterprises, with firms such as the Tata Group, Reliance Industries, and the Aditya Birla Group among those in talks to invest.
To attract and implement these proposals, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has held separate meetings with large conglomerates, and will continue to work closely with state-level investment promotion officers appointed by the northeastern governments.
“We are committed to converting these investment commitments into reality by working hand-in-hand with investors and state governments,” Scindia asserted.
He emphasized that this wave of investment will not only catalyze economic development in the region but also create substantial employment opportunities, providing a much-needed boost to local communities.
Scindia’s announcement has sparked renewed optimism in the region, reinforcing the government’s commitment to the Northeast as a vital economic frontier of the country.
